May 31 – Let’s Celebrate Trails – Join BYLT and Inn Town Campground for the launch of the first Fireside Chat of the 2018 season, our second annual collaboration. We’ll kick off the big Celebration of Trails weekend and share all the details about hiking and riding adventures in store for lovers of the outdoors.
Local Writer, Historian, and Photographer Hank Meals will be a special guest. For 25 years, Hank worked off and on as an archeologist for the Tahoe National Forest for 25 years. His resume includes photojournalism, tree planting, fire fighting, trail construction, cone gathering, wildlife habitat improvement, archaeology, trail guide, and interpretation. He is the author of several books about trails: The River: Hiking Trails and History of the South Fork of the Yuba River and Yuba Trails 1 and 2 and is co-authoring a book about the Nisenan people. Meals began leading hikes for Bear Yuba Land Trust nearly 30 years ago and his knowledge of local history and trails remain popular draws.
As usual, we’ll have trail maps, trekking calendars and merchandise for sale. Also, it’s a great opportunity to pitch a tent or go glamping at the Inn Town Campground with family and friends. If you book a campsite with the Inn Town Campground, mention you are coming for the BYLT Fireside Chat and the Inn Town Campground will donate $10 to BYLT. If you plan to camp, don’t forget to reserve your campsite in advance! If not camping, please park outside the campground gates and walk in. We’ll be by the campfire.
