Junior Conservationists: Burton Homesteasd

Join Bear Yuba Land Trust and Certified California Naturalist Steve Roddy as we continue our family series – Junior Conservationist: Stories in Nature. This time we will explore the wonders of Burton Homestead.

The property has a diversity of ecosystems including large, spreading oaks and soaring conifers, wetlands, ponds, a wildflower meadow, a network of woodland trails and the original Burton cottage and gardens.

Tree species include sugar pine (Pinus lambertiana) and black oak (Quercus kelloggii). Interesting forbs include sulphur pea (Lathyrus sulphureus), small whit nemophila (Nemophila hererophylla) and snake lily (Dichelostemma volubile). Look for the California towhee (Pipilo crissalis).

A conservationist is someone who advocates or acts for the protection and preservation of the environment and wildlife. These outings are designed for children ages 5 to 12, accompanied by a parent or other caregiver. Join us the second Saturday of every month as we explore local trails and discover the plants, animals, and history of each special region.
