Bird Banding with Allison Nelson

Do you love birds or birdwatching? Want to see wild songbirds up close, in hand? Join BYLT in our efforts to better understand local bird populations through bird-banding research with the Empire Mine Bird Monitoring Program. We band birds approximately 4 days per month at Empire Mine State Historic Park in Grass Valley, for 5-6 hours starting at sunrise. We are seeking volunteers who can contribute 2 or more days per month and can make at least a one-year commitment to the program. Previous bird-banding experience is ideal, but not necessary. Volunteers will be trained in bird handling, capture, banding, ageing, species identification, and other techniques. Persons of all physical abilities are welcome but please note that the program does involve a considerable amount of walking. Please contact Allison Nelson at nelson.allison@gmail.com for more information. Download program application HERE.
