Bear Yuba Land Trust hosts Pollinator Day for Bees, Bats, Birds and Bugs

Pollinator ProjectSeptember 3, 2015 – Join Bear Yuba Land Trust, BriarPatch Co-op and E. Emmet Brady, creator and host of the Insect News Network (INN), for a full engaging day with tours and lectures learning about local pollinators on Tuesday, Sept. 15.

The event is part of BYLT’s ongoing education and action campaign coined the “Pollinator Project.” Emmet Brady is a world-leading cultural entomologist and guest host on KVMR Radio. INN explores the connection, parallels and influences between humans and insects.

Pollinator Day Part I will be an outdoors event held from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Land Trust’s Burton Homestead on Lake Vera Road just outside downtown Nevada City. Here participants will take a walking tour of the Property to learn about the pollinators working the flowers and fields. Brady will discuss the relationships between pollinators, plants and people and the important things that can be done to help these important creatures.

Pollinator Day Part II is a presentation held from 7 to 8 p.m. at the BriarPatch Co-op Community Room where Emmet Brady will continue his discussion delving into the magical world behind the science and art of Pollination. Grayson Coney, Tsi-Akim Maidu Cultural Director will join Brady to share a Native American perspective of human-plant-pollinator relationships.

Bear Yuba Land Trust is committed to ensuring the survival of honeybees and other local populations of pollinators threatened by habitat loss, disease and pesticide exposure. BYLT’s Pollinator Project includes: Community education and outreach for backyard gardeners, native pollinator plantings on Land Trust Preserves this fall, needed open space for local beekeepers and participation in “Co-op Cause,” a register donation program, at BriarPatch Co-op.

Throughout the month of September, patrons of BriarPatch Co-op can ask cashiers to “round up their change” for pollinators and the money will go directly back to BYLT’s Pollinator Project.
