Nominate your Conservation Hero!

Bear Yuba Land Trust (BYLT) is proud to open public nominations for the 2020 William Nickerl Award for Conservation Leadership and John F. Skinner Sierra Outdoors Recreation Awards. Again this year, the public can submit nominations for members of our community who live or work in the Bear and Yuba watershed and personify leadership traits of the awards’ namesakes.

Applications are now closed and winners will be announced October 1.  Awards will be made at our virtual Open Spaces & Wild Places Gala on Friday October 16 6:00-7:30pm.  We invite you to nominate your favorite Conservation Leadership and/or Outdoors Recreation Award hero.

To recommend more than one person or to recommend one person for both awards, you may submit multiple entries.  Please be specific in describing traits of your nominee with respect to the William Nickerl Award for Conservation Leadership or the John Skinner Sierra Outdoors Recreation Award.

The Conservation Leader Award exudes these traits:

  • Demonstrate a long time commitment to land conservation
  • Be an advocate for sustainability and environmental policy
  • Have proven dedication to BYLT’s mission to enrich a community connection with land
  • Have achieved measurable success through fostering or inventing a new effort
  • Be a leader who never gives up in the face of a challenge and inspires others to act

The Outdoors Recreation Award recipient exudes these traits:

  • Advocate for local parks, preserves, recreational programming and/or outdoor education
  • Have a proven track record of outstanding volunteer service and success
  • Be a leader who never gives up in the face of a challenge and inspires others to act

A committee – comprised of community leaders and the BYLT Board of Directors – will select the winners by August 10th, who will then be recognized during our 2020 Celebration of Lands.
