Please follow Governor Newsom's mandate:
"We are encouraging people to go outside with intention and purpose – not linger – but to deal with the health needs that we all have of being outdoors and taking a deep breath, practicing common sense and social distancing."

About the trail:
The beloved Independence Trail was the first identified wheelchair accessible wilderness trail in the country. It utilizes the old Excelsior Ditch, built around 1859 to carry water for hydraulic mining. Read more about the trail and donate at bylt.org
Have you been out to Adam Ryan Preserve lately? ⛏️

A lot of work has been done by BYLT staff and Restoration Crew volunteers over these past couple of weeks!

The primary focus of these workdays was to clear excess woody material to improve ecosystem health and increase fire safety on the Preserve. Restoring landscapes is an important element to the work Bear Yuba Land Trust accomplishes.

Conserving critical habitat and ensuring the land is properly stewarded fulfills our mission to protect and defend natural and working lands in the Bear and Yuba River watersheds!
Bear Yuba Land Trust staff and Trail Stewardship T Bear Yuba Land Trust staff and Trail Stewardship Team volunteers have been hard at work on the @visitgrassvalley Wolf Creek Trail!

Have you been hiking off the beaten path? 🥾

Bear Yuba Land Trust has been continuously building and maintaining a natural earth trail that branches off the main, paved section for about two years now.

Currently, this section is being expanded, thanks to the help of our hardworking volunteers! #TrailsThursday
Last month, BYLT staff went out to Independence Tr Last month, BYLT staff went out to Independence Trail with several other partner organizations to reassess the damage inflicted by the Jones Fire. After the long winter, new growth was spotted along the trail!

Some native plants spotted along the trail included:
1. Orange Cup Fungus, which fruits in response to fire.

2. Native Geophytes such as wavy leaved soaproot (Chlorogalum pomeridianum), which rely on robust underground storage structures to survive fire.

3. Polypody ferns, which are some of the first plants to emerge after a fire passes through an area.

This amazing display of resiliency parallels the efforts to rebuild the Independence Trail! >> DONATE TODAY at the link in our bio.
